Why
To make the AI transition legible: to give its dynamics names so they can be seen, debated and, where necessary, resisted.
I founded the Recursive Institute to examine the economic and societal consequences of AI-driven automation through falsifiable, evidence-graded research, starting from the Theory of Recursive Displacement. It runs with a deliberately small team: me, setting direction and theoretical grounding, and RALPH, an AI research entity that researches, writes and stress-tests the theory.
